Anmeldung step by step

The Anmeldung (registration) is the first step after arriving: without it there is no bank account, tax ID or phone contract. You have 14 days from moving.

Documents

1. Passport or ID for each person.
2. Wohnungsgeberbestätigung (signed by your landlord, mandatory).
3. Completed Anmeldung form.

Getting an appointment

• Find your city’s Bürgeramt and book online.
• In big cities slots go fast: check early in the morning.

If you are late

After 14 days there may be a fine, though many offices are flexible with a reason.
